A need identified was identified by the University in response to growing requests from muslim students for improved prayer facilities which has in turn led to the desire to provide a more cohesive set of facilities for the chaplaincy team and other faith groups.
The objective is to produce a multi-faith centre offering space for all faith groups in the centre of campus located on an open site to the south of The Forum. This makes it accessible from all parts of the site and be at the heart of the University. Through use of simplistic form, adaptable space and natural daylight the proposal provides an uplifting, inspiring and soulful space conducive to prayer and contemplation. The design encourages community and discussion where different faith members are able to participate in a mutually respectful, yet co-operative, manner. The design acknowledges the loss of the existing amenity space and looks to replace this with a combination of open, free flowing space connected to an enhanced natural landscape.
